Make the worksheet

  1. Open the card layout and start with a short word list.
  2. Choose a model, trace and blank-copy pattern.
  3. Check each word against the narrower card width.
  4. Inspect the card boundaries, gutters and page margins.
  5. Print one sheet at actual size and check it before cutting apart the cards.

Choose the space the task needs

Cards have less room than full-width rows. If a word is too wide, try fewer columns, a wider page or a smaller letter size. Keep the whole word visible.

Before you print

Print and check one sheet before cutting. Make sure the card borders and writing areas sit inside your printer’s usable margins.

Questions about this worksheet

Can each card have a different word?

Yes. Enter one short word per line. The card layout gives each entry its own practice group. Start with four words and inspect all cards before adding a longer list.

What should I change if a word is too wide for a card?

Try fewer columns, landscape paper or a smaller letter size. Check the whole word after the change, including its last letter and any punctuation.

Do the cards include room to write independently?

The prepared pattern includes a blank Copy row as well as a model and tracing row. Keep that row if you want writing space after cutting the cards apart. Check one physical sheet before cutting a batch.
