Three picture and sentence worksheet ideas
Pair a drawing with a short caption about a leaf, a bird or rain in the garden.
Prompt: draw one branch and add a leaf. Keep the drawing inside the blank picture area.
A picture gives a short sentence something to describe. These three ideas pair an empty drawing box with a caption to read, trace and copy. Add the drawing on the printed sheet.
Use one consistent preparation setup
Open the picture-and-writing maker. Choose your paper and margins, then try a 6 mm letter size with one Look–Trace–Copy sequence. Use the same settings to compare the captions before making changes.
Activity 1: a leaf and a branch
Keep the capital A and the final period. Check the tall f and b as well as the smaller letters. Leave the last row blank for copying the complete caption.
Activity 2: a bird near a tree
Prompt: draw a tree and place a bird nearby. Leave room below the box for the caption.
Look at the tall b and d and the lower tail on y. Let the writer choose where the bird goes in the drawing, then read the caption together before using the writing rows.
Activity 3: rain in a garden
Prompt: draw a small garden and add falling rain. Leave the caption area separate from the picture.
Check the whole phrase, especially the g in garden and its final period. If the caption needs another line, use Wrap at word boundaries or choose a wider page.
Check each finished page
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Picture area | The drawing box must not overlap caption rows. |
| Full caption | The final word and period must still appear. |
| Writing space | A blank copy row needs usable room, even after the picture box. |
| Margins | The outer drawing and writing areas need to fit the chosen paper. |
| Page count | A larger picture area or letter size can change pagination. |
Export the examples separately if you want three separate activity sheets. If you keep several captions in one project, check each preview page to see how the drawing box and rows are arranged.
Keep the prompt original and simple
Try a sentence of your own, such as A seed in a pot. or A cloud over a hill. Keep it short enough to leave room for copying, then check the new page before printing.
